Tor and Alcatraz
This weekend was so epic that it's going to take a long time to sit down and write out. In the mean time, here's an entry about Alcatraz. After this weekend, I decided it was time for him to get a good, thorough schooling. His owner is a long way off from doing more than two jumps in a row and I'm not strong enough yet to give him the ride he needs, so I had Tor come out and run him through his paces. She wound up taking him around a mixed course (2'-2'3", including an oxer). She even got two changes out of him. The horse is a born jumper and honest as the day is long. In a few months he should be very point-and-shoot. Once I'm strong enough, we'll be playing with lots of gymnastics. And this was a good chance for Tor to work on some of her 'flaws'. She's a brilliant rider with good feel and timing and a velcro butt like I've never seen, plus she's fearless. Like me, she's frequently riding troubled horses who move on when they're finished. Of course, I got a ton of photos.

ReplyDeletegeeeorg!!! love me an honest OTTB
ReplyDeletethis make me want to learn how to jump and then I remember that I have a horrible habit of trying to watch my horse to see if it looks pretty =/
ReplyDeletei think youre right - with gymnastic exercises (cavalletti!) I bet he'd pick up and tuck those feet, and get some bascule on a taller fence - he certainly was into it - love the ears!! what fun!
ReplyDeleteGood boy! He looks great.
ReplyDeleteHe looks fantastic! Some gymnastic work sounds like just the thing to help him progress in the right direction. Do you think his owner will let you event him? ;)
ReplyDeleteHis owner would probably let me do whatever I wanted with him. Haha. I'm hoping to event Dancer before I sell him, though, so maybe I won't have to do it with Traz :)
Deleteoh eventing talk...love it. This horse is a gem.
