Best of all, we got to let our pups play together. We took them out on the trails behind Erin's house and let them loose. Klaus and Herbie had never met, but they were basically a match made in heaven. Herbie plays rough and Klaus is built to take it. Better still, he's not a chicken so he doesn't back down to her every whim, and she had to learn to mind her manners. They ran and ran and ran, until Erin and I were exhausted from watching them. They swam, and jumped obstacles, and played fetch. They rolled in dead things together. Herbie finally found a worthy tug opponent. She and Klaus pulled on sticks until they broke. Gradually, they picked bigger and bigger sticks until they were yanking on opposite ends of a sapling.
Herbie smelled terrible by the end of their outing, and both dogs were panting and slowing down by the time we got back to Erin's house. Herbie slept like a rock that night and didn't even get up to come to the farm with me the next morning. I think we need to make play dates a regular thing!
Here, have a billion photos of them playing together.
Matching derp face.
Klaus is a much better swimmer than Herbie...
...so she just let him do all the work, then stole his stick.
They made some pretty gnarly faces.
Gnarly face.
Klaus is a little beef cake.

"Stay? You're not gonna leave me here, are you?"
Zoomy dogs.
Gorgeous views.
The couple that rolls in dead things together stays together...?
Herbie, I don't even...
Love the photos! What a great life!
ReplyDeleteMatch made in heaven. I love when two dogs just "click". So fun.
ReplyDeleteHow great that Herbie has made a new friend with whom he's well matched!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...he could be exhausted like that every night if you adopted a well-matched canine brother or sister for him .
I don't have the time or the money for a second dog. Herbie would be pretty sad not to be the only child; she enjoys the attention. Besides, she gets to play with other dogs and run around a farm every day. We have no problem wearing her out!
DeleteI love the portraits of the two pups on the rocks!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! They are a dynamic duo.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures. They look like great friends.
ReplyDeleteHerbie has the best running faces! So funny!
