Shadow

I was in a crabby mood all day today, but Carolyn swooped in and saved the day when she brought in a little bundle of joy just before 5 o'clock. Said bundle of joy is a three month old female pit bull cross (probably with Boston terrier) and she has had a rough start. She is emaciated and covered in sores and, when the SPCA seized her, her collar was embedded deep in her neck, leaving her with deep wounds and edema. Despite everything she's been through, the little girl came in with her tail wagging, ready to give face kisses. She is an absolute sweetheart and a total lap dog. I am sure she'll find a home quickly.

I brought the pup home with me to get some photos of her condition and introduce her to Bryce. She bounded energetically around the back yard and even played with Herbie. She followed us everywhere, which is how she earned the nickname 'Shadow'.

She's now at Carolyn's, where she will be rehabbed, vaccinated, and fixed before going off to a loving forever home. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. People just plain suck. And for every puppy that gets saved, there are hundreds more that don't get so lucky. The most incredible thing about it all is that this poor pup, who has never known anything but cruelty, just keeps on forgiving and loving. It's enough to make you bawl.

  4. I just don't get it, crying right now. She is so sweet and still curious. I can see the Boston and that just makes it all the more difficult. I am so glad somebody found her. Give her big loves from me and Fred. She's gonna make it.

  6. What a sweet looking little pup. That is so sad what people have done to her. Glad she's in good hands now.

  7. This pup is why I will always have more faith in animals than in people.

Also, I want to rub her floppy puppy ears. Please keep us updated about her, and if possible, progress pics?

  8. What a sweetheart, I'm sure she will find a home soon. Poor little girl, people really do suck. Great pics, as always. I especially like the one of her and Herbie trotting side by side, where Herbie is looking at her. Too sweet.

  10. She is so precious!!!!! Her story breaks my heart. I have done a lot of volunteering in the rescue shelters in my area- but I never get used to it.
Thank you so much for these beautiful pictures of that precious baby.

  11. Poor puppy. I can't fathom how people can treat animals that way, especially puppies. Those big, trusting brown eyes? How can you hurt them?

  12. So not fair that sweet, gentle loving dogs are abused and neglected by such horrible humans! Poor pretty girl. She has such a reserved and cautious look in her eyes, but behind the veil is willingness to give humans another chance. Gotta love her.
Too bad she's so far away from me, or I would be tempted to adopt her and smother her with love, cuddles and lots of playtime and good food.

Wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing her story.

  14. I am constantly astounded by the depth of people's cruelty and indifference to animals - I see so many come in with chains embedded in their necks, victims of cruelty and neglect, and yet they forgive and learn to trust and love. I hope this little one finds the perfect home quickly.

  15. Shadow is just so sweet. It breaks my heart every time I hear of animals being mistreated by idiot people, yet once they land on their paws in a happy environment, they quickly forgive and let their guard down, ready to become a part of the pack again.

    Bless Shadows little cotton socks.

...are you sure Herbie wouldn´t love having a little sister?

  16. I think Herbie would love it for the first day, then be jealous.
